Suzie loves the “blend of hard core fitness and femininity/grace that you find when floating through the air” and has a penchant for spinning “nauseatingly fast”. Best known for her ability to petrify an entire Beginners class by screaming “POINT YOUR TOES”, Suzie can usually be found hanging upside down off something “if its not a pole, its my boyfriend (we do double trapeze) and if he’s not around I’ll make do with children’s play equipment”.
Prior to discovering pole Candice was a photographer… since discovering this “opportunity to get super fit but to also be super sexy” she has won this country’s most prestigious pole competition and was crowned Miss Pole Dance Australia in 2007. An adrenalin junkie (she’s up to her 26th bungee jump!) and Suzie’s best friend, Candice is best known for her willingness to try any new trick, the crazier the better. Just don’t ever start a sentence with “I dare you to…”
Zahra has always been interested in gender and sexuality (she has bachelor degrees in Law (Honours) and Arts (History) and an ongoing Masters in Gender and Cultural Studies) as well as in sport and girls with great biceps, so her and pole are pretty much a match made in heaven. You can easily spot her at the studio – she’s the one with the ever-changing hair colour: Fire engine red, long dreadlocks, short pink, purple mowhawk, shaved patterns, white blonde and aqua are some of her recent experiments. Apparently “long rainbow extensions” are next. Stay tuned…
Charlee is the Studio Manager who you might confuse as Suzie's younger sister. Charlee became a pole devotee four years ago and continues to spread the love of pole through her maxim that "your never too old". Opening the school in 2008 was a dream come true but her greatest achievement is her three children. Being an excellent role model for them and teaching them to believe in themselves and aspire to their dreams is her number one role. For Charlee, pole dance is a sensual art form in which woman can embrace their feminity and gain confidence as they defy all misconceptions, but most importantly do whilst having fun! To make a difference is to make a positive change in someone's life. "Never Stop Learning, Find ways to re-invent yourself, Never let the fire go out"
Belle’s love affair with pole dancing began as soon as she had finished her first class. She expresses it best: “You can not participate in Pole Dancing and not take something more out of it, whether its confidence, motivation, sense of achievement, or even just a bit of joy. For me it was a lot of things but most importantly a confidence in myself, which everyone should have”. She loves teaching at SQPS because “The people involved in it are more than workers or students, its a place where we all come together and teach, support, laugh and learn”.
Amarli is Miss Nude Australia for 2010 and one of Australia’s finest showgirls. When she’s not pole dancing Amarli dedicates her time to W.I.R.E.S, spends time with her friends, family and her “babies” (the four legged and wagging tail variety). She claims that all her recreational time is spent “in the nude” and we have a sneaking suspicion that she may be the author of the “full-nude entry policy to SQPS” note we found in the suggestion box!
Luxe says she came into Pole as “someone with no dance background, feeling a tad uncoordinated, and as being a bit of a tom boy, but I instantly feel in love with pole because it is the one form of dance that has no rules, no barriers, and no preconceptions. I love pole because any person can do it, the only requirements are desire and commitment”. She hopes that students leave her classes with “A new level of respect for themselves, a sense of accomplishment, a motivation to persevere… and a temptation to practice on street poles”. You can check out some of Luxe's writings on the pole industry on her Agent Pole Blog.
Bailey loves her job at SQPS because she us “constantly inspired by the people around her” and loves the fact her uniform involves “sparkles and frills” because suits just aren’t her thing. Her favourite pole outfit is her white sparkly bra (she made it herself) and describes it as a “never ending mass of sparkles”. Likewise her favourite pole shoes (once pink) are now covered in purple sparkles. A recent graduate of a Theatre Media Degree, Bailey now splits her time between pole, aerial silks and putting together some amazing productions.
Along with Zahra Stardust, Stacey is the winner of the Open Pairs Division in the Australian Pole Dance Championships for 2009. She is recognisable at SQPS by her short hair and “big guns”, and thinks that pole dancing is “the best way to get fit, feel good about yourself and creatively express who you are”. She spent her formative years working as a Personal Trainer “whipping people into shape and making them sweat, swear and groan”... So not that much has changed! Try out one of her killer Conditioning classes and you’ll see what we mean!
Kellie is one of the intrepid receptionists here at the Studio, her love affair with pole first began when her best friend organised a pole party for her Hen's Night - and she hasn't looked back! She loves the fun and relaxed atmosphere at SQPS and is most proud of her family - a family which is about to receive a new addition in the coming months! (Congrats Kel!)
When she's not hanging upside down on a pole, CJ likes to be lounging by the pool with a Cosmo in hand often while wearing her favourite pair of leopard-print kitten heels. She loves being a part of the SQPS family and is not only one of our beautiful receptionists, she is also the distributor of Dry Hands in Australia www.dryhands.com.au
